Oranges for Justice – An interview with Karen Crooks and Tom Hilton

When Karen Crooks visited Calabria and saw the difficulties faced by many migrant workers … and the way that the Mani e Terra cooperative was seeking to do the right thing by the people who worked for it, she had “a lightbulb moment”. Would it be possible to educate people in the UK about the exploitation that was taking place … and how they could support people who were doing things differently?

Fast forward a few years and Karen and Tom Hilton, founding directors of Oranges for Justice, speak about how they founded Oranges for Justice, what the challenges and joys have been, their vision for the future … and what it means to navigate four pallets of fruit in your garage.

CCOW Podcast – Interview with Carol Wills

During Fairtrade Fortnight 2025, we spoke with Carol Wills about the origins of Fair Trade, its meaning, people in the Fair Trade movement who have inspired her, and how we can pray and act to support Fair Trade.

Carol has worked in Fair Trade for about 50 years – starting with the first Fair Trade shops in the UK; spending time with Oxfam in South Asia and as manager of the Bridge programme, which brought Fair Trade products to market at Oxfam shops; and serving as Executive Director of the International Federation of Alternative Trade, which became the World Fair Trade Organization. She brings experience of Fair Trade at every level: from time spent with individual artisans and farmers to the experience of working on global principles and standards. We are hugely grateful to her for sharing her reflections.
