“The free, online webinars will be held on:
Wednesday 1st December 2021 (16:00 – 17:15)
Wednesday 19th January 2022 (16:00 – 17:15)
The training is aimed at teachers and staff in schools and other educational settings. It provides an introduction to supporting Afghan students that arrive in your school or organisation. We draw on the recent information, current research on the resettlement of young Afghans in the UK, and our experience with young Afghans over the past 10 years. We will explain the educational implications for newly-arrived students with a focus on barriers to their progress and achievement. We will outline practical strategies that you and your organisation can adopt to overcome these challenges with young people. and share details of free REUK resources that can help you engage with Afghan families and develop your policies and practices.
Specifically, the training will help you to:
- recognise how Afghan students will be impacted by forced displacement and their previous experience of education
- identify academic and wellbeing challenges for resettled Afghan children
- develop compassionate and effective interventions appropriate to the context of Afghan students
