“Join us this St Nicholas’ Day to celebrate and recognise the champions of refugee resettlement, and to call on the government to welcome a further 25,000 refugees by 2025.
Good old St Nick is the patron saint of children, has ties to the Middle East, and is the inspiration for Santa Claus – so what better day to gather the Refugees Welcome movement for a Zoom Assembly to:
- Celebrate the resettlement of 20,000 refugees (many of whom are children) between 2015 and 2020;
- Recognise all the people and organisations who took action to make this possible through Community Sponsorship and council-led resettlement;
- Call on the UK Government to ‘extend the welcome’ to 25,000 more refugees by 2025;
- Issue an urgent demand for resettlement to resume, if the current scheme is still frozen at that time.
