This spring, UKHK is organising a series of Friendship Festivals and receptions across the UK, so we can all have fun together in the sun – people from Hong Kong, local churches and communities, and everyone in the neighbourhood! This event at Christchurch Meadows (George St, Caversham, Reading RG4 8BY), in the centre of Reading, is being organised by Coffee & Craft, Wycliffe Baptist Church, Reading Chinese Christian Church, as well as other local churches, organisations and UKHK.
- The Friendship Festival will include:
- An official welcome for new arrivals to the UK
- Ceilidh (a traditional Gaelic social dance, pronounced “kay-lee”) with live music
- Postcode Olympics Sports Day
- Giant Garden Games
- Hong Kong and British Arts and Crafts Making
- Activities for school children e.g. face painting, balloon modelling
- Other activities to engage with local community groups
In addition, we have written a “Welcome to the UK” book especially for children from Hong Kong. Register for the “Children” ticket to get your child a free copy at the Festival!
Travelling to Christchurch Meadows is easy. The address is George St, Caversham, Reading RG4 8BY, and it is a 10 minute walk from Reading Station (across the Christchurch Bridge or Thames Arch Bridge – both beautiful Reading landmarks). If driving, paid parking is available at Hills Meadow Car Park, George St, Reading RG4 8DH.
