Marlow Refugee Action writes: “For the first time this year we are gathering a group of volunteers to go and help the salvage efforts at Reading Festival. We will be meeting up with our friends HERTS FOR REFUGEES who are old hands at this and send regular van loads of items over to Calais. We would love you to come along and help, if you’d like to register your interest or to find out more please email Sally at firstname.lastname@example.org
and here is some more info …..
“Reading is the biggest, messiest salvage of the year but it has the best potential for us to collect lots of lovely tents and sleeping bags..! We need as many volunteers as possible to help us fill the vans to bursting point before we drive it all over to France. The more we can collect from here, the less we have to spend on new gear to help people survive through the winter. It also saves a lot of plastic and metal ending up in landfill…!
The event takes place at Richfield Avenue, Reading, RG1 8EQ on Monday and or Tuesday 27th/28th August.
What you’ll need:
Appropriate footwear – Closed toe, not sandals
Gloves – gardening type are good
Hi-Viz vest – we will have a limited number available but if you can bring your own, that would be brilliant…!
Be prepared for changeable weather – Waterproofs/sun-cream are useful as are food and water to keep you going.
As always, we will be working with the amazing FWRD – Festival Waste Reclamation and Distribution to make this happen, thank you so much guys…!”
