Non-refoulement as a norm in international and EU law

May 16, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Non-refoulement is the principle that means countries cannot return people to a country where they are liable to be subject to persecution. It’s a key principle of international refugee law – and one of the key questions about EU border policy at present is the extent to which it is being observed. This is, therefore, a timely event.

“Jenny Poon is a Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and a Barrister & Solicitor in Ontario, Canada. Jenny’s research involves a comparative analysis of the principle of non-refoulement as a norm in both international and European Union law.”
