“The numbers of people forced to flee their homes and seek refugee protection because of war and persecution continues to rise. At the same time in Europe and across the globe we are experiencing a tide of rising anti-immigration and refugee sentiment, increasingly restrictive border controls and a lack of international solidarity – in particular from the wealthiest countries. Here in the UK, “hostile environment” policies are making the lives of those coming to the UK to seek protection very challenging.
BUT there is also a powerful student movement of welcome with a long history. STAR is one example of what can happen when students decide to take action – it was formed by a small group of students at Nottingham University 25 years ago and today is a network of 35,000 – but there is much more!
Join us to find out about how students have been making a difference, to learn about the current context and challenges for people seeking asylum and to get the tools you need to make change.
