“You are invited to our Afghan Welcomer training to be equipped and ready to welcome your neighbours. You will learn about the Relocation Scheme, the immediate and longer term needs and rights, and you will also learn how you, as a church, can reach out and warmly welcome newly-arrived Afghans into the community. The training will take place on three different dates for the rest of September as follows:
Thursday 16th September 7:30 – 9pm
Wednesday 22nd September 7:30 – 9pm
Tuesday 28th September 7:30 – 9pm
Over the last few weeks, our team have had the privilege of travelling around the country, visiting temporary accommodation where newly-arrived Afghans are currently being housed and working alongside local churches who are ready to welcome them. We have received some encouraging feedback from Richard Stephenson-Evans from Cheshire East Council, who had this to say:
“Welcome Churches have been absolutely amazing. Any request and they have literally jumped to support us and the families. We have a fantastic relationship with the churches locally and one coordinator who is extremely efficient with any support asked by us. Overall, thank you so much for the amazing connections. The families absolutely love seeing the volunteers and truthfully we couldn’t have done this wrap-around support without the churches.”
