“In the second of our events focused on the UK’s immigration detention system, join us to watch a shocking (and BAFTA-nominated) undercover investigation into Brook House Immigration Removal Centre. This will be followed by a Q&A with the lawyers representing Abbas and others abused in the documentary: Nick Hughes and Patrick Page of Duncan Lewis Solicitors. On the 25th of April, they launched a legal challenge to the home secretary’s failure to instigate a public inquiry into the abuse of their clients and into the wider immigration detention system.
‘Any meaningful and effective investigation into Brook House must look into government policies and practice, including their contractual and outsourcing arrangements,’ said Page.
Immigration Removal Centres are run by private contractors who make a profit off the people inside.
What can we do? How can we build our opposition against this? Join us on the 17 May in Wadham College, (Okinaga Room) to find out more.
